Chrome Plating Motorcycle Wheels

    chrome plating
  • Chrome plating, often referred to simply as chrome, is a technique of electroplating a thin layer of chromium onto a metal object. The chromed layer can be decorative, provide corrosion resistance, ease cleaning procedures, or increase surface hardness.

  • (Chrome-plated) Dressed up (hot-rodders, originally)

  • In the 1930s, the USN started to chrome plate the bores of most guns to a depth of 0.0005 inches (0.013 mm).  This was "hard chrome," which is not the kind that you find on your father's Oldsmobile.  This plating increased barrel life by as much as 25%.

  • motorbike: ride a motorcycle

  • MotorCycle is the title of a 1993 album by rock band Daniel Amos, released on BAI Records. The album was dedicated to the memory of songwriter Mark Heard.

  • A two-wheeled vehicle that is powered by a motor and has no pedals

  • a motor vehicle with two wheels and a strong frame

  • A circular object that revolves on an axle and forms part of a machine

  • steering wheel: a handwheel that is used for steering

  • Used in reference to the cycle of a specified condition or set of events

  • (wheel) a simple machine consisting of a circular frame with spokes (or a solid disc) that can rotate on a shaft or axle (as in vehicles or other machines)

  • (wheel) change directions as if revolving on a pivot; "They wheeled their horses around and left"

  • A circular object that revolves on an axle and is fixed below a vehicle or other object to enable it to move easily over the ground

George Brough was without doubt the most outstanding figure in the motorcycle industry throughout the twenties and thirties and the SS100 model was his most outstanding product. Translated, SS100 meant Super Sports 100 mph. Tunder examples of the SS100 held the World's Two Wheel speed record five times, the last time in 1937 with a two run average of 169.7 mph and a one way speed of 175 mph. The SS100 was no circuit racer but mid-twenties racing versions won on sand and track and finished with final records at Brooklands banked bowl.By the late thirties the SS100 had matured into a luxury road bound super bike. George Brough who always wrote his own publicity material as well as designing, testing and selling his bikes, declared this model was "...capable of from 10 mph to 110 mph in top gear, was the fastest motorcycle on the road, was recognised throughout the world as a masterpiece and was the be all and end all of the motorcyclist's dream."
There had been a J A Prestwich engined model SS100 back in 1927-8 which would certainly do 110 mph - though not 10 mph - in top gear but this quieter smoother running version engined by Matchless Motorcycles was hard put to reach 100 mph. There were, of course, no consumer protection laws and advertising standards rules in those days and readers took it all with a pinch of salt. No onw was likely to argue with a manufacturer who had notched up 100 wins on his own bikes and in 1928 on a special racing SS100 had been the fastest man on earth on two wheels with a one way speed of 130 mph. For most enthusiasts it was all a dream anyway for the prices hovering around ?150....those lively chrome plated mudguards were extras, representing two years wages for many.Lawrence of Arabia had five Brough Superiors in a row.All Brough Superior adverts carried the slogan "The Rolls Royce of Motorcycles" George did not have permission from Rolls Royce, they never complained. Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe Black Series

Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe Black Series

Spectacular design, technology transfer from the world of motorsport and driving dynamics at the highest level; the new Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series embodies the new AMG brand claim, Driving Performance, like no other AMG model. The new high-performance vehicle is the most powerful C-Class of all time, boasting a maximum output of 380 kW (517 hp) and a maximum torque of 620 newton metres. The AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine impresses with its hefty torque, tremendous pulling power and responsiveness, and ensures high-calibre performance: the C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series accelerates from zero to 62 mph in 4.2 seconds (all data provisional). Exclusive fun at the wheel comes courtesy of the adjustable AMG coil-over sports suspension, the AMG high-performance compound braking system and the advanced standard equipment. The AMG Track Package is available as an option to enhance driving dynamics even further. It boasts sports tyres and active rear-axle transmission cooling, plus the AMG Aerodynamics package including flics, a functionally tuned front splitter and an adjustable carbon-fibre rear aerofoil.

Broad, low, brawny and ready to pounce even at a standstill - the C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series makes a mighty impression. It's clear right from the first time you set eyes on it that the C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series is made for ambitious laps on a closed-off race track. In visual terms the new high-performance vehicle is reminiscent of the SLS AMG GT3 customer sports car and symbolises the transfer of technology from the sphere of motorsport, which has been part of the corporate philosophy of Mercedes-AMG GmbH for 44 years now.

With its new C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series, AMG is presenting an exciting sports car for enthusiasts who are passionate about sports cars which are big on horsepower, and this marks the impressive continuation of the Black Series strategy, which began back in 2006. AMG, the performance brand of Mercedes-Benz Cars, is once again demonstrating its expertise when it comes to designing and developing emotionally appealing high-performance cars.

"AMG has its roots in international motorsport. The new C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series is the best proof there is for the permanent transfer of technology from the race track to the road. The numerous successes in the DTM, the customer sports range featuring the SLS AMG GT3 and our commitment to Formula 1, where we have been providing the Official F1TM Safety Car and the Official F1 Medical Car for the past 15 years, continuously spur on our engineers and technicians. The C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series embodies the new AMG brand claim, Driving Performance, like no other AMG model," comments Ola Kallenius, the CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

It doesn't matter from which angle you're looking at it: the new C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series displays its ties with motorsport from every perspective. The arrow-shaped front section with the central Mercedes star in the radiator grille is the visual synonym for its unfettered forwards thrust. The air intakes in the striking front apron ensure reliable air flow through the large cooling modules. Two openings in the aluminium bonnet support the expelling of engine heat, whilst the struts positioned at an angle in the front apron emphasise the vehicle's width. The black front splitter located at the lower end helps to balance the vehicle aerodynamically.

The expressive design continues in the side view: the newly developed front axle with a greater track width calls for new wings, which have been widened by 28 millimetres on each side. "6.3" logos give a nod to the sheer power of the large-displacement eight-cylinder high-speed naturally aspirated engine beneath the bonnet. Air outlets intimated behind the wheel cut-outs call to mind powerful racing cars. The onlooker discovers a black strip on the restyled AMG side skirts - a look which continues the idea of the front splitter. On each side the rear wings have also been widened by 42 millimetres, due to the greater track width of the rear axle. Air openings are hinted at in front of the rear wheels, forming a fitting conclusion.

255/35 R 19 and 285/30 R 19 - these are the impressive wheel formats for the C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series at its market launch. The wheel/tyre combination is mounted on 9 x 19 (front) and 9.5 x 19 (rear) AMG light-alloy wheels, fills out the wings to stunning effect and plays a significant part in the dynamic appearance of this new AMG sports car.

Painted titanium grey, the high-sheen light-alloy wheels are produced using particularly light forging technology - as is the case on the SLS AMG. These forged wheels weigh a total of eleven kilograms less than comparable wheels with a conventional design. The lower weight results in reduced unsprung masses, which improves both the suspension's response and the steering precision.

The tail end of the Black Series coupe is also a feast for the eyes: the new rear apron with its expressive

IR conversion

IR conversion

Well, here it is. One of my first IR shots with the converted G1. Notice how palid my fingers look? It's a bit startling. Also delightful -- behind the card is my steering wheel cover. In visible light, it's black and the little animal footprints are light brown. It's almost like a negative image in that respect.

On the card is the name and contact information of the professional photographer in the state of Victoria in the south of Australia who did the conversion work. David Burren can handle a number of different cameras. If you have a candidate, check out his site, feast your eyes on his gallery (IR and colour), and check out the list of cameras he currently converts. My G1 was converted such that the filter glass is inside, replacing the hot mirror; from the outside, it looks like it always did. There's no filter in front of the lens.
